Western Sydney University VR Tour
Immersive campus experience for global student orientation
We designed and delivered a VR-based campus tour for Western Sydney University’s Surabaya campus, enabling prospective students to explore the environment before physical access was possible.
Built as a flexible, facilitator-led experience, it allowed both guided and self-directed exploration across a range of deployment environments.
The opportunity
Introducing a new campus remotely is challenging — especially when physical access is limited or impossible. Traditional media struggles to communicate spatial layout, scale and day-to-day experience.
There was an opportunity to use VR to help students understand the campus environment, build familiarity, and form an early connection before arriving.
The system
Standalone VR application built for Meta Quest
High-detail stereoscopic 3D environment of the campus
Hybrid content approach (architectural model + lived-in scenarios)
Dual-mode experience (facilitated tour and free exploration)
Facilitator control system (tablet / laptop / keyboard input)
Hand-tracking interaction model (no controllers required)
Offline-first deployment model for low-infrastructure environments
Screen mirroring / casting for group viewing and discussion
Performance optimisation for standalone VR hardware
Highlights
Enables students to understand spatial layout before arrival
Combines architectural accuracy with lived-in campus scenarios
Designed for both guided sessions and independent exploration
