VR Medical Training
Early-stage immersive training prototype for clinical procedures
VR Medical Training was an early prototype exploring how immersive technology could be used to train clinical procedures.
Developed for Gear VR, the project combined 360° video with interactive 3D elements to guide users through a step-by-step intubation workflow.
The opportunity
Clinical training is high-stakes, difficult to access and often constrained by physical availability of equipment, instructors and environments.
This project explored whether early VR technology could support procedural training in a way that was repeatable, accessible and immersive.
The system
Mobile VR application built for Samsung Gear VR
360° video capture in a real hospital environment
Interactive 3D overlay elements guiding procedural steps
Step-based workflow for intubation training
Hybrid 3DOF/6DOF interaction model
Lightweight runtime optimised for mobile VR
Simple state progression system for step tracking
Highlights
Early exploration of VR for procedural medical training
Combined real-world footage with interactive guidance
Translated complex clinical workflows into structured steps
Demonstrated potential for repeatable, low-risk training
