UAE Golden Jubilee Expo
Large-scale projection mapping and live event content system
We partnered with David Atkins Enterprise to deliver large-scale projection content for the UAE’s Golden Jubilee Ceremony at Expo 2020 Dubai — a landmark celebration marking 50 years of the nation.
Designed for Al Wasl Plaza — home to one of the world’s largest immersive projection surfaces — the work formed part of a live, multi-disciplinary performance seen by a global audience.
The Brief
Expo 2020 Dubai was one of the largest global events of its kind, expected to attract tens of millions of visitors and centred around Al Wasl Plaza — a 360° projection environment at the heart of the site.
For the UAE’s 50th anniversary, the brief was to create content that could operate at architectural scale, integrate seamlessly with live performance, and support a narrative celebrating both history and future ambition.
The Experience
Audiences were taken on a fantastical journey through land, sea, wind and sky — told through the eyes of a grandmother guiding the next generation.
The experience combined large-scale projection, choreography, puppetry and live performance into a unified visual language, transforming Al Wasl Plaza into a fully immersive storytelling environment.
At this scale, the work needed to be both intimate and monumental — readable across a vast audience while maintaining narrative clarity and emotional resonance.
The Build
Ultra-high-resolution content pipeline (27,000 × 6,000px @ 50fps)
Bespoke 2D and 3D animation tailored to dome-based projection geometry
Custom cloud-based validation and delivery system for large-scale media
Pipeline designed to manage and deploy hundreds of gigabytes of content reliably
Tight integration with live show systems and performance timing
To deliver at this scale, we focused on precision and reliability — ensuring every frame aligned with performance, architecture and audience perspective, with zero margin for error.
